One of the biggest complaints about traditional LED strips is the lighting dot throughout the strip. A lighting dot is a bright area through the strip where you can see where the light is coming from. Light is more soft and attractive when it looks like a smooth light source rather than a lighting dot mess.
With 5050 SMD flex strips, the larger diodes are squeezed close enough so that the light is spread out and consistent across the illuminated surface at a distance. But if the light is too close to the surface or the strip itself is visible, the hot spot is an obstacle that the human eye cannot ignore.
With a 480 chip/M COB strip, it is pretty challenging to pick out any hot spots on the COB flex strip. This strip shines a soft, uniform light from end to end. Even light with no lighting dot is more attractive to the human eye and gives off a steady light even in the narrow places. The only natural way to see the lighting dot is to look at the back of the strip, where it is easier to see the individually placed flip-chip LEDs. You can only see the individual led if you dim strip down to about 5% brightness. This makes COB flex strips ideal for applications where

1. LED Chip Expanding – The LED chips undergo a specialized expansion process to enlarge the p-n junction area and enable higher luminous efficacy and tighter chip packing density on the PCB.
2. Die Bonding – Using advanced high-precision pick-and-place equipment, the expanded LED chips are die bonded onto the PCB substrate through eutectic bonding or solder bonding using high-temperature solders or silver-filled epoxy adhesives.
3. SMD Resistor Integration – Precision SMD chip resistors are populated onto the PCB through an automated pick-and-place machine to enable current regulation to each LED.
4. Solder Reflow – The PCB assembly passes through an industrial convection reflow oven with a tightly controlled thermal profile exceeding 165°C to achieve complete solder reflow and permanent electrical interconnection.
5. Phosphor Deposition – The LEDs are coated with a fluorescing phosphor compound matrix through electrophoretic deposition or conformal coating processes.
6. Automated Dispensing – The phosphor/silicone mixture is precisely dispensed onto each LED chip through an automated fluid dispensing system for uniform coverage.
7. Post-Dispensing Cure – The phosphor-coated PCBs are cured in industrial ovens to anneal the phosphor particles and cure the silicone encapsulants.
8. Quality Testing and Inspection – 100% of PCB assemblies undergo comprehensive ICT/Flying Probe testing combined with automated optical inspection.
9. Termination – Low-profile solderable copper pads are terminated at the end of each PCB for connectivity to power supplies.
10. Back-end Reliability Testing – The finished COB LED strips undergo reliability testing, burn-in, and packaging per CE standard prior to shipment.

The COB LED Strips can be shortened by cutting at designated intervals marked on the strip. Simply resolder new connections to rejoin the ends. Polarity must be maintained for proper functioning.
